Rockin to the Rhythm of the Rails

During dinner one evening my wife was saying that she wants to take a train trip. I alluded to the upside of making love on the trip and my business partner blurted out the title of this song. I made a note and wrote the song a few months later.

Lyrics

Eloped to Carolina on the Blue Ridge rail
Momma Scarlet kind of chased us away
Smothered by a mother who’d matched me with another
She was so used to getting her way
So I gathered up my courage and I gathered up my man
Gathered just enough money to pay
Headed east to Carolina and I never looked back
Making love every step of the way

Rockin’ to the rhythm of the rails
Keeping perfect time
Screaming as the whistle masked love that we were making
We were lovers who were both in our prime
Rockin’ to the rhythm of the rails
Leaving our cares behind
Hungry for our passion we had more than our fair ration
We had one thing on both of our minds
The Rhythm of the rails

When nightfall came we were climbing in the mountains
The locomotive blowing off steam
We matched our rhythm to the clacking of the rails
We were both there feeling our dream
We were in and out of tunnels as the switch backs rocked us
The lights kept flickering
Crossed the Tugaloo River on the way to new life
Sipping on ol Jim Beam

Rockin’ to the rhythm of the rails
Keeping perfect time
Screaming as the whistle masked love we were making
We were lovers who were both in our prime
Rockin’ to the rhythm of the rails
Leaving our cares behind
Hungry for our passion we had our fair ration
We had one thing on both of our minds
The Rhythm of the rails

Wrote a letter to my Mother explaining why I left
Hoping that she didn’t grieve
Told her that I loved her, was glad she was my Mother
Explained why I had to leave
I asked her to forgive me and accept my man
In a love she could never conceive
Could she visit Carolina when the spring time bloomed?
And meet my hubby, please?
